Making a Missionary's Day
For our activity on Tuesday (December 8th) we will be meeting all together at the church at 7:00. We will be putting together boxes for the missionaries serving from our ward for Christmas. We are asking each girl to bring an item or two that you think a missionary might need or want. Some examples are pens, stationary, non-perishable food items, hygiene stuff, socks....things along those lines. We will also be making some yummy treats to put in the boxes as well. I think if we really work hard and put some thought and effort into these kits we really can make a missionary's day!!

Change of Plans
I know I recently posted the up-coming activities, but there has been some changes since that post. There won't be ANY regular mutual activities for the entire month of October because....it's ROADSHOW time!! I am encouraging all of you girls to get involved with the Roadshow. If you don't want to actually "act" there are plenty of "off-stage" things you can help out with. The first Roadshow rehearsal will be THIS Tuesday (October 6th) at 7:00. Please contact Sister Broderick if you have any further questions.
P.S. The Wednesday night fireside on October 14th in Riverside and the Beehive Conference on October 17th are both still taking place.

You don't want to miss this!
This Tuesday night we will be having a very special activity that you really won't want to miss out on, and it will also count towards your personal progress! Sister Ashley has invited several people to come and discuss what kind of job they have, what kind of training and schooling it took to get that job, as well as an overall description of what they do. It is going to be an excellent "career night" that could be extremely beneficial! Please bring your friends, and the boys are invited to join us as well. 7:00 at our building!

Virtue
We have officially spotlighted all of our 8 values and now we have come back to Virtue, which started out in January as our first value of the month. The color representing Virtue is Gold.
"I will prepare to enter the temple and remain pure and worthy. My thoughts and actions will be based on high moral standards."
"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies." ~Proverbs 31:10
Since we are starting to go through the values for the second time I would like to present a "value challenge" for each month to go along with your personal progress.
Challenge: If you have not started reading the Book of Mormon already I challenge you to start doing so this month. Try to read one chapter a day and see if by doing this if your daily life will be impacted at all. In order to pass of the Virtue requirement in your personal progress you must read the entire Book of Mormon cover to cover. Good luck!

Tonight all the Young Women will be meeting together. The Mia Maids are in charge and we will be starting to cut material to make quilts. Each girl will be able to make her own quilt, which she can choose to keep for herself or donate (we will discuss the details of donating later). We have plenty of material, but if there is anyone who would like to bring her own material, please feel free to do so. Or if you happen to have some scrap fabric laying around, and you don't mind sharing, bring it!! This will be an on-going project that we will work on several more times this year. See you all tonight!

Integrity
The value for the month of August is Integrity.
"People of integrity and honesty not only practice what they preach, they are what they preach. And the Savior stands as the finest example." -David Bednar
"When one is loyal to the truth, we say he is a person of Integrity. When one is loyal to the truth under intense opposition, we say he is a person of great Integrity." -Royden G. Derrick
What is purple? Grapes are purple
Grape jelly, grape juice, grape bubblegum
The Raisin Bran box is purple
Purple is bangles and baubles
Purple is violet and lavender
It's royal, stalwart, and true
It is the color of the Mountains Majesty
Purple is to be honored
It is loyal
A soldier who is wounded in battle wears a Purple Heart
Purple is Oh; it's hard to find purple
It is very rare
Few possess it
Purple is when the heart and mind and deed become one in truth
What is purple?
Purple is INTEGRITY
Oh, what glory to shine with this color purple
"That you may retain your self-respect, it is better to displease the people by doing what you know is right, than to temporarily please them by doing what you know is wrong." -William J.H. Boetckerand not just once a week.
I want to represent the Lord
Each time I think and speak.
I want to be His witness
I want to be His witness
In all things and places, too.
I want to emulate Him
In the many things I do.
I want to be His servant
With my heart and soul and mind.
I want to seek His lost sheep
And not quit until I find.
I want to praise Him always
And make Him proud of me.
I want to do this with my heart
And with Integrity.

Collecting
I am working on some up-coming activities, but I need some help collecting a couple of things.
First I need as many nylons as I can get a hold of. It doesn't matter if they are old or new or what color they are I just need a BUNCH!! So if you have some old ones lying around I would love to have them or you can help me out by purchasing some cheap ones at either Wal-Mart or CVS. I believe you can get a pair for under $1 at both these places. Please bring them to church or to mutual no later than Tuesday August 25th.
The 2nd item I am collecting are these large Mason canning jars with lids. I actually need these sooner than the nylons, I need them by Tuesday August 11th. So if you have some you would like to donate to our Young Women that would be greatly appreciated.

Break out those Personal Progress Books
Because you are going to need them this Tuesday night!!
From now until the end of the year every third Tuesday we will be focusing on personal progress and helping our girls work towards earning their Young Woman Recognition Award. Even if you have already earned your medallion we still want you to be there. It would be great for the younger girls to get advice, ideas, and help from the older girls who have already completed their personal progress.
This Tuesday (July 21) we will be meeting at 7:00 at Sister Ashley's house. The first hour will be spent on personal progress then the pool will be open for swimming! There will also be yummy barbecue courtesy of Brother Ashley. You are welcome to stay and swim until 9:30, but can leave earlier if you need to.
Please bring: Personal progress book, journal, strength of youth pamphlet,(if you have one) swimsuit, and towel. Also a positive attitude, because we are going to make personal progress fun!!!

Love to be a Laurel
On Friday the beautiful Laurels got to go on a little adventure. Here is a re-cap of how the day went:
Then all the girls loaded into my car (Erica was in the front seat) and we drove out to the Staple Center in LA to see the Wringling Brother's Circus!
Sister Hansen with her sweet little boy Clark.
Erin and Natasha enjoying the show!
We had these amazing box seats which I was lucky enough to get for free from a friend of my husband's family. What an incredible experience we had!
The circus was amazing. I loved every second of it! I think the girls came to the consensus that they liked the dogs and the elephants the best. I have to agree that the elephants were pretty impressive.
There was just so many things to look at. I watched in pure amazement the entire show. I was glad that I had the opportunity to take these girls to do something special because they deserve it!
We had a fun group....sad that some of the girls couldn't make it though. We have lots of fun plans for the summer, so hopefully those who didn't come this time can join us on our next fun adventure.
After a fun show with AMAZING seats and a LONG drive home we stopped and got the best frozen yogurt ever at NUBI's.
I just want all my Laurels to know that I love you all so much and I enjoyed spending the day with you and I can't wait to have more fun experiences together!
First stop was a yummy breakfast at Brandon's Diner.

Good Works
The value we will be focusing on for the month of July is Good Works. This color comes and glows from giving and sharing your time, talents, and service.
"I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something that I can do." ~Helen KellerBy all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.
What is yellow?
Yellow is happy
It is the sun on a summer's day
It is cheerful and bright
It is lemons, dandelions, and baby ducks are yellow
It is the color of my highlighter
A ribbon this color means, "Welcome Home"
Yellow is jazzy
It says fun
It is a raincoat and boots to brighten a gloomy day
Yellow is the warmth we feel as we touch another's life with
Christ like service
Yellow is Good Works
Nurture others and build His kingdom through service.
