Pictures

Last Friday was the Bishop's youth activity. This month we played Bunco. There was a pretty good turn-out and I think everyone had a lot of fun! Here are a few pictures!

Then Saturday morning we met up bright and early to go on the required girl's camp hike up to the "M". Here's everyone before we started the 4 mile journey.

The hike was pretty strenuous, and pretty steep, but the girls were troopers. We had 19 girls, 6 adults, and one cub scout in our group and I am pleased to say all 26 of us made it to the M.

I do have to give props to Ashley for coming with us, she's not even going to camp, but came to support the rest of us. I also have to give a shout out to the YCL's who came with us too, since they aren't "required" to hike.
Grace, Ashley, and Emily.
Erica, Julia, Dori, Emily, and Ashley.
Girl's taking a rest at the top of the mountain.
Sisters Erin and Caitlin.
Two of our youngest girls: Keely and Nicole easily made it to the top.
There was a lot of screaming (because of bugs), a little bit of complaining, and few small injuries, but overall the girls did an awesome job and I think they were all pretty proud of themselves once they reached the top of that mountain.
After everyone was safely down the mountain we had a little birthday party to celebrate Dori's birthday with party hats, blowers, and cupcakes!
I think our birthday girl was most excited about being done with the hike.
Girls, I can't tell you enough of how proud of you all I am. It wasn't an easy thing climbing that mountain, but together, with the help of Heavenly Father, we made it. I was so proud to see you help and encourage each other. I loved seeing you holding each others hands and brushing one another off. I love you girls so much and I am honored to be your leader. I have learned so much from you in the short amount of time I have known you. You inspire me daily. Thank you for being such wonderful girls....it's such a pleasure to watch you mature into beautiful young women.

Friday and Saturday

There are some activities coming up this Friday and Saturday that I wouldn't want you to miss, so here are the details!!

Friday: Bishop's Youth Activity at our building 7-9 p.m. We will be playing "Bunco." This is a really fun, interactive game that is super simple to play. And as always there will be plenty of pizza and snacks. Bring your friends and come hang out!!

Saturday: The dreaded hike is finally here! (So let's just get it over with!!) We will be meeting at 7:15 a.m. at Sister Bunn's home and then driving together to box springs park to hike to the "M". Don't be late because we want to start hiking before it gets too hot. Remember: this is a REQUIREMENT for camp. If you are going to camp you MUST participate in the hike!
Please bring:
  • Comfortable shoes to hike in
  • A small backpack
  • Your first-aid kit
  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, bug spray
  • Lots of water
  • And a positive attitude!

Also: if you were asked to bring food don't forget it! Erin will be calling those who have been previously assigned on Friday to remind you about your assignment. Can't wait to see you all there bright and early on Saturday!

Tuesday Night

Just wanted to remind everyone about mutual tonight. It is the 3rd Tuesday, which means we will be CAMP CRAFTING!!! Please bring your camp manuals and be ready to pass some stuff off. We will be planning food for our hike, making first-aid kits and learning how to use them, and putting together some thank-you gifts for some special people who have helped us out a lot recently! See you tonight!!!

YARD SALE

Last year, the Young Women from the Valley View Ward had a garage sale to raise money to pay their camp costs. We were so successful---and the girls had so much fun!---that we would like to do it again.

What a great opportunity for you to go through your closets and purge! Donate those jeans that will never fit again! Give us Aunt Irma's idea of a great present! Give away all those presents you were going to re-gift to distant relatives! Get rid of all those VHS tapes! Gather up the toys and clothes that the kids have outgrown. Help yourself and donate those self-help books! Take this opportunity to help stimulate our economy. Help the Young Women and donate, donate, donate!

The yard sale is on Saturday, April 18th. I can come to pick up any donations you may have before that. The girls will also sell soda, water and baked goods. If you would like to help out that way, we would be delighted. (and grateful!)

Remember: One man's junk is another man's treasure!!

PS. After you do all that cleaning out, you are going to have a lot of spare room. Why not come by our sale and see what you can pick up? The prices are reasonable and all proceeds go to benefit the Young Women... (Courtesy of Sis. K)

Tonight during mutual we will be preparing for Saturday's big event. Please bring all items you would like to donate so we can start sorting through stuff and getting things organized. If you have any boxes, markers, scissors, tape, or poster board, please bring it too! I know if we all work together we will have a successful night!

Individual Worth

The value for the month of April is Individual Worth.

Individual Worth is represented by the color RED.

"Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.""You were preserved to come to the earth in this time for a special purpose. Not just a few of you, but all of you. There are things for each of you to do that no one else can do as well as you--If you will let Him, I testify that our Father in Heaven will walk with you through the journey of life and inspire you to know your special purpose here." -H. Burke Peterson Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss

What is red?

Dorothy's shoes were red.

Red is bright and alive

It is hot

It means stop

Red is apples and raspberries and little kids sneakers and cherry lifesavers

My wagon was red

Red is bold and loud, a fiery sky

Red is the soil of the earth

His garment will be red when He comes again

The color of our life's blood

Red is the rock in the Garden of Gethsemane

Red is my INDIVIDUAL WORTH

I am of infinite worth with my own divine mission which I will strive to fulfill.

Spotlight and a birthday!

Not only is today this pretty girl's birthday, but she is also our spotlight for the month of April!

For those of you who didn't know Ashley is our laurel class president and has been a wonderful leader and example to the other girls.
Ashley was born in Riverside California on April 4, 1991. She is the youngest of four children and is the only girl. Ashley is a very talented dancer. She not only dances herself, but she also teaches younger girls to dance as well. When she’s not dancing she enjoys scrapbooking and going to the beach. Ashley LOVES the color pink and she just redecorated her entire room in that color. Ashley enjoys eating at Olive Garden, likes to watch her favorite TV show, Friends, and is a sucker for asian chicken salad and Reese’s peanut butter cups! Ashley will not only be graduating from high school this year, but she will also be earning an associates degree from RCC at the same time!! Way to go! She is studying psychology and hopes to transfer to BYU in the very near future. In the future Ashley would like to be a therapist and own her own dance studio all while being a mommy too! Ashley we LOVE you so much and will really miss having you in Young Women’s.

Happy 18th birthday Ashley!! I really wish that you didn't have to grow up and that you could stay in Young Women's with us forever!!
