Collecting

I am working on some up-coming activities, but I need some help collecting a couple of things.

First I need as many nylons as I can get a hold of. It doesn't matter if they are old or new or what color they are I just need a BUNCH!! So if you have some old ones lying around I would love to have them or you can help me out by purchasing some cheap ones at either Wal-Mart or CVS. I believe you can get a pair for under $1 at both these places. Please bring them to church or to mutual no later than Tuesday August 25th.
The 2nd item I am collecting are these large Mason canning jars with lids. I actually need these sooner than the nylons, I need them by Tuesday August 11th. So if you have some you would like to donate to our Young Women that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for your help and support!!

Farewell

I have to bid a bittersweet farewell to Sister Hansen. She and her family have moved to Washington to start the next chapter of their lives. While we truly are happy for her, she will be terribly missed!! Thank-you for all your love and support and the diligent service you gave as our Laurel Advisor. Thank-you for your sweet lessons and burning testimony. I know we have all learned something from you. You will forever be in our hearts!
Good luck in this new adventure and visit us often!! Please send pictures of the new baby so we can all see how beautiful she is. Know that you are loved and will be missed!!

Break out those Personal Progress Books

Because you are going to need them this Tuesday night!!

From now until the end of the year every third Tuesday we will be focusing on personal progress and helping our girls work towards earning their Young Woman Recognition Award. Even if you have already earned your medallion we still want you to be there. It would be great for the younger girls to get advice, ideas, and help from the older girls who have already completed their personal progress.
This Tuesday (July 21) we will be meeting at 7:00 at Sister Ashley's house. The first hour will be spent on personal progress then the pool will be open for swimming! There will also be yummy barbecue courtesy of Brother Ashley. You are welcome to stay and swim until 9:30, but can leave earlier if you need to.
Please bring: Personal progress book, journal, strength of youth pamphlet,(if you have one) swimsuit, and towel. Also a positive attitude, because we are going to make personal progress fun!!!

Love to be a Laurel

On Friday the beautiful Laurels got to go on a little adventure. Here is a re-cap of how the day went:
First stop was a yummy breakfast at Brandon's Diner.
Then all the girls loaded into my car (Erica was in the front seat) and we drove out to the Staple Center in LA to see the Wringling Brother's Circus!
Sister Hansen with her sweet little boy Clark.
Erin and Natasha enjoying the show!
We had these amazing box seats which I was lucky enough to get for free from a friend of my husband's family. What an incredible experience we had!
The circus was amazing. I loved every second of it! I think the girls came to the consensus that they liked the dogs and the elephants the best. I have to agree that the elephants were pretty impressive.
There was just so many things to look at. I watched in pure amazement the entire show. I was glad that I had the opportunity to take these girls to do something special because they deserve it!
We had a fun group....sad that some of the girls couldn't make it though. We have lots of fun plans for the summer, so hopefully those who didn't come this time can join us on our next fun adventure.
After a fun show with AMAZING seats and a LONG drive home we stopped and got the best frozen yogurt ever at NUBI's.

I just want all my Laurels to know that I love you all so much and I enjoyed spending the day with you and I can't wait to have more fun experiences together!
In other news: This Tuesday will be a combined activity with just the girls. We will meet at 7:00 at the church. The Beehives are in charge and they have asked us to bring popcorn (and maybe some drinks, I know popcorn makes me thirsty!) and to wear comfortable clothes. See all Tuesday!

Good Works

The value we will be focusing on for the month of July is Good Works. This color comes and glows from giving and sharing your time, talents, and service.
"I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something that I can do." ~Helen Keller
Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.
What is yellow?
Yellow is happy
It is the sun on a summer's day
It is cheerful and bright
It is lemons, dandelions, and baby ducks are yellow
It is the color of my highlighter
A ribbon this color means, "Welcome Home"
Yellow is jazzy
It says fun
It is a raincoat and boots to brighten a gloomy day
Yellow is the warmth we feel as we touch another's life with
Christ like service
Yellow is Good Works
Nurture others and build His kingdom through service.
